It is one of the Bible’s many sweet and powerful promises: “Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). The question is, though, how do we do this? In very practical ways, how do we resist the devil?
Do you feel betrayed and disappointed when friends let you down? Are you expecting a reward all the time? Are you being calculative? Are you keeping a record of how much you have been giving and trying to strike a balance of how much they have returned to you? Perhaps there may be times when you feel that you have given more than what is returned back to you?
Let’s get really honest with each other for a minute. Let’s put aside all the clichés, feel good one-liners, and quick to apply Bible-verse band aids. Sometimes, life is just really hard. And no matter how many inspirational quotes you might throw someone, there is a good chance there burdens are much too deep to be fixed with a quick-to-speak answer.
