Studies Acknowledge How Traumatic Miscarriage Is – So Why Doesn’t Society?

Studies Acknowledge How Traumatic Miscarriage Is — So Why Doesn’t Society?
  • The traumatic aftermath of a miscarriage, even an early one, is an empirically proven, statistically significant trend.
  • Miscarriage and grief are both an event and subsequent process of grieving that develops in response to a miscarriage.
  • This event is often considered to be identical to the loss of a child and has been described as traumatic.[
  • Losing a pregnancy can affect a woman – and her family – for years, research finds.
  • Emotional responses may be bitterness, anxiety, anger, surprise, fear, and disgust and blaming others; these responses may persist for months.
  • By far the most common PTSD symptoms that result from miscarriage are depression and anxiety.
  • Mental Illness after miscarriage is common, but women aren’t getting the support they need.
  • A study from the Irish Journal of Psychology found that 44 percent of women who had miscarried during their first trimester showed “clinical levels of psychological distress,” even months later. That includes depression, panic attacks, flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety.

So your friend decides to forget the “12 week rule” and tells her family and social networks she is pregnant. She knows the stats — one in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage — but she wants to have the support of family and friends around her in case she needs it.

Then the worst happens: she miscarries. And she discovers many people around her, including health professionals, lack sensitivity when talking about the miscarriage. Some don’t even acknowledge her loss.

So how can we support women better? What do women need from family, friends and health professionals at the time of a miscarriage?

Dos

  1. Acknowledge their loss.
  2. Listen and let them grieve.
  3. Encourage them to talk to other women who’ve had a miscarriage.

Don’ts

  1. Avoid clichéd comments.
  2. Avoid blaming and offering unsolicited advice.
  3. Recognise grief doesn’t have a time limit.

Mental illness can be a consequence of miscarriage or early pregnancy loss and even though women can develop long-term psychiatric symptoms after a miscarriage, acknowledging the potential of mental illness is not usually considered. A mental illness can therefore develop in women who have experienced one or more miscarriages after the event or even after many years later.

“There is the initial shock of finding out your child has passed, alone in an ultrasound room because partners are not allowed in with you, then there is the trauma of the abortion pill which is essentially going into labour at home without any medical professional present, and then you are expected to live your life normally for weeks, going to work, smiling, all the while knowing your dead pregnancy is inside you and could come out at any moment. I don’t think any woman finds herself on the other side of that mentally intact.”

In collaboration with the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre’s Pregnancy and Infant Loss Network (PAIL), they’ve developed a compassionate miscarriage education session for nurses and are currently piloting it in an emergency department (they can’t say where until their study is completed in the fall).

“The study will explore the barriers and benefits of using a screening tool. Some hospitals now have early pregnancy loss clinics to which they can refer women experiencing miscarriages. This is a very new development and we hope that use of these clinics will result in better screening and follow-up for women who may have mental health issues following their miscarriage.”

There may be a link between PTSD and miscarriage

“Why isn’t this being taken seriously?”

Engel says that the consideration of post-traumatic stress disorder has been brought up incidentally in some studies, with a few studies suggesting that a small number of women who experience miscarriage show evidence of PTSD.

Engel says there are very limited long-term studies related to mental health and miscarriage and that most studies tend to have been conducted in the first year post miscarriage or even within the first six weeks.

Engel also says findings of the studies are contradictory, with some suggesting that life circumstances or social support have no bearing on the experience of either depression or anxiety. Others suggest that women who have limited social support, prior losses, longer gestation, and/or existing mental health concerns are more likely to experience greater severity in depression and/or anxiety and to experience symptoms of either up to a year.

A True Miracle: 5-Year-Old Thrown Off Balcony at Mall of America Suffers no Spinal Damage, no Nerve Damage and no Brain Damage

A True Miracle: 5-Year-Old Thrown Off Balcony at Mall of America Suffers Spinal Damage, no Nerve Damage and no Brain Damage

A man called Aranda approached the little boy’s mom at a group at the mall on the 12 of April 2019. Landen mom asked him if they were in his way and should move. Without hesitation or warning the stranger picked up Landen and threw him from the balcony at the Mall of America.

Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time 24-year-old has committed crimes at the mall. Aranda has two prior assault convictions from 2015 and was apparently banned from the the Mall of America for a period of time. He was also instructed to undergo psychological evaluation following those earlier attacks.

Later that day Aranda admitted to throwing the boy off the balcony to Police after they captured on a light rail train leaving the mall. He also told the police that he had attempted to kill somebody the day before (preferably an adult), but it didn’t “work out.”

He is being held in Hennepin County Jail in lieu of $2million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 14.

The suspect’s uncle, Francis Aranda, told KSTP that his nephew had displayed violent tendencies since childhood.

‘He has a serious mental problem, he was diagnosed as a child,’ the relative said.

He added: ‘We are going to pray for that baby [Landen] because what happened is so unfortunate, but it’s going to bring light to mental illness, I hope he [Aranda] doesn’t go to jail, he needs help.’

Pastor Mac Hammond (above) at the church Landen Hoffmann’s family attends in Woodbury, Minnesota, updated the congregation on the five-year-old’s condition on Sunday, nine days after he was thrown off a third-story balcony at the Mall of America on April 12

In spite of being thrown off a balcony that could have killed him, doctors have reported that Landen is thankfully doing much better than expected to the point where even the medical staff are chalking it up to nothing but a “miracle.”

This is truly a miracle. It’s like he fell off a bicycle instead of off the third floor of the mall.”

Mac Hammon, the pastor of the family’s church, was contacted by Landen’s grandpa on Sunday during the Easter sermon.

The results were obtained after a 5-hour MRI. “Doctors said they found no brain damage – not even any swelling,” Hammond told church congregants on Easter. “No spinal damage, no nerve damage ”¦ doctors are saying it is truly a miracle.”

Mac Hammon, shared that the boy did suffer many broken bones, including fractures on his arm, leg, and face. He will also need to have his spleen removed.

The GoFundMe page set up for Landen posted this encouraging update a week after the incident:

“The power of prayer is simply amazing. We all have been extremely humbled by the outpouring of support and prayers from everyone. Thank you for showing us there is so much good not only in our community but across the globe. Condition is again similar to previous days, another peaceful night of sleep — small steps towards the healing process. Each new day is a good day. Landen’s recovery is expected to be ongoing for a long time, while it’s hard to estimate costs, this will change everything for their family and require much of their time and focus.”

Over 27,000 people have donated to a GoFundMe campaign that has raised more than $961,000 as of Tuesday morning.

Mental Health Facts, Stats, and Data

  • Over 44 million American adults have a mental health condition. Since the release of the first State of Mental Health in America report (2015), there has only been a slight decrease in the number of adults who have a mental health condition (from 18.19% to 18.07%)
  • Rate of youth experiencing a mental health condition continues to rise. The rate of youth with Major Depressive Episode (MDE) increased from 11.93% to 12.63%. There was only a 1.5% decrease in the rate of youth with MDE who did receive treatment. Data showed that 62% of youth with MDE received no treatment.
  • More Americans are insured and accessing care. We can continue to see the effects of healthcare reform on the rate of Adults who are uninsured. This year there was a 2.5% reduction in the number of Adults with a mental health condition who were uninsured.
  • …But many Americans experiencing a mental health condition still report having an unmet need. 1 in 5, or 9 million adults reported having an unmet need.
  • Mental health workforce shortage remains. Many states saw some improvement in their individual to mental health provider ratio. But in states with the lowest workforce there was almost 4 times the number individuals to only 1 mental health provider.

Always Be The Best You Can Be

Always Be The Best You Can Be

How do we honour God? Or do we? A lot of times people think, “oh, I go to church to honour God. I read my Bible to honour God. I sing and clap in worship to honour God.” And yes, those ways do honour God, but did you know that you also honour God when you get to work on time? You honour God when you are productive each day, and respect and treat people with love. You honour God when you excel despite life’s struggles.

Actions speak louder than words. When you give of your very best in the workplace, at school or while playing sport, you’re giving praise to God. Having a good attitude, friendly, organised, being your best–people will notice there’s something different about you. They’ll want what you have.

Today, as believers, we should set high standards in all areas of life. People should see the depth of your character and your spirit of excellence, and know that you are a child of the Most High God. Today, make the decision to honour Him in all that you do, because you are His representative, His hands and feet on  the earth.

“Remind people to be submissive to [their] magistrates and authorities, to be obedient, to be prepared and willing to do any upright and honorable work.”

(Titus 3:1, AMPC)

Pray With Me
Yahweh, I choose to honour You in all that I do. Father, I choose to set the standard and do my very best in all areas of life. God, I thank You for the privilege of being Your representative. Please help me show Your love and excellence in everything I get involved with today, in Jesus’ Name! Amen.

Even In The Midnight Hour”¦

Even In The Midnight Hour…

While in Copenhagen this past week I spoke on Acts 16, where Paul and Silas were beaten and accused without a trial, then put in jail for the gospel’s sake. It wasn’t fair. As they sat in the prison, bloodied, bruised and helpless, it looked like things were over for them. They had no human help, nowhere to turn. When they were literally trapped and bound in their circumstances, they began to sing praises to God at midnight during their darkest hour. Then suddenly there was a great earthquake. The prison doors flung open, their chains fell off, and they walked out as free men! Hallelujah!

We’ve all had times when we felt completely trapped by circumstances. We’ve all felt lonely and hopeless. So many people today are facing their darkest hours, and feel humanly there is nowhere to turn. You’ve done nothing wrong that’s directly linked to your current situation, but still life has beaten you and you feel helpless.

Today, I encourage you to do what Paul and Silas did and begin to praise God! When you praise Him no matter what, that’s when God enters your situation. That’s when He can break the chains that hold you back and that hold you down, and set you free. Praise Him in your midnight hour and watch Him show up and set you free. When things are at it’s darkest, pray and sing praises, and watch Him shake your darkness away. Hallelujah!

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.” (Acts 16:25-26, NIV)

Pray With Me
Yahweh, right now I lift my heart to You. Father, You are worthy to be praised! I will bless You in my midnight hour when I feel victimised and beaten up by life for nothing that I have overtly done wrong. God, I know that You are good, and You have victory and freedom in store for me despite the darkness that’s all around, in Jesus’ Name! Amen.

Rape victims in UK must hand over phones to police or face cases being dropped under new bold forward thinking scheme

  • People are split on whether new guidance for crime victims will help or hinder prosecutions.
  • We think that this is a positive move which will help bring light to cases.
  • CPS Director of Public Prosecutions Max Hill says only ‘relevant’ material will go to court (Home Office/PA)
  • We think that this is a true statement unless Prosecutions come across something regrettable or questionable as the forms state even information of a separate criminal offence “may be retained and investigated.

Victims of rape and serious sexual assault could allow suspects to avoid charges if they refuse point blank to give police access to their mobile phone contents, two top officials have said.

Metropolitan police assistant commissioner Nick Ephgrave has admitted that the new national consent forms authorising detectives to search texts, images and call data are proving conversations around the UK as the difficulties of disclosure in the digital age risk pitting the pursuit of justice against preserving privacy.

In the lead-up to trials, police and prosecutors are required to hand over relevant material that can undermine the prosecution case or assist the defence.

The police are really saying, ‘if you don’t let us do this, the CPS won’t prosecute.’

Police and prosecutors have sought to reassure victims of crime that only material relevant to a potential prosecution will be harvested, but the forms state even information of a separate criminal offence “may be retained and investigated”.

Everyone needs to understand that if they get caught up in a crime, whether as witness or complainant, there may be information on their mobiles that is relevant.

When rape cases don’t make it to trial

The procedure came under sharp focus in 2017 after a string of defendants had charges of rape and serious sexual assault against them dropped when critical material emerged as they went on trial.

They included student Liam Allan who was accused of rape before his case was thrown out of court after it emerged a detective had not handed over text messages from the accuser’s phone.

Some 93,000 officers have undertaken training, while police hope artificial intelligence technology can help trawl through the massive amounts of data stored on phones and other devices.

The Centre for Women’s Justice (CWJ) said a legal challenge is expected from at least two individual women who have been told by police their cases are likely to collapse if they do not cooperate with requests for their personal data.

What is AI?
In computer science, artificial intelligence, sometimes called machine intelligence, is intelligence demonstrated by machines, in contrast to the natural intelligence displayed by humans and animals.

The failure of police and prosecutors to routinely disclose crucial evidence has caused ‘untold damage’, the Government admitted yesterday, suggesting artificial intelligence is now needed to comb social media of alleged victims.

In a devastating review, the Attorney General Geoffrey Cox said a series of “system-wide” problems had led to innocent people “being pursued” wrongly through the courts.

The review was launched at a time of concern over collapsed cases, such as the prosecution of Liam Allan, who was charged with 12 counts of rape and sexual assault only for the case against him to be dropped.

While welcoming steps already being taken by police and the CPS to address the issues, Mr Cox called for a “zero tolerance” culture on disclosure failings.

Digital Divide: A Wake Up Call To Christian Leaders

In our era of instantly, constantly available “news,” how do we sift through the chaff and find the truth? How should we even think or feel about the relentless storm of bad news, questionable posts, conspiracy theories, and conflicting claims that swirls around us in this age of dis/mis/information?

Beyond the generational divide is the reality that the digital age allows information to leap over geographical and political boundaries

Nowadays, it’s common knowledge that whatever you post on the internet can be seen by anybody at anytime. But could you imagine providing evidence in a sexual assault case and then being charged for another crime because of information contained on your mobile phone? Well, thats exactly where this is heading. An indecent picture someone sent you on WhatApp perhaps, or maybe a movie that has not been obtained by legitimate purposes. Whatever the case maybe, its time to wake up.

We believe all of this comes down to is just simple common sense. Realizing that there are several sets of eyes on you at all times whenever you post online or on your phone should you become wrapped up in a court case for that matter is your best defense against posting or retaining something regrettable or questionable.

Woman, You Are Enough

To Women: You Are Enough

Why is it so easy to believe the worst about ourselves? We so readily encourage other women, tell them that they are beautiful, intelligent, and special, but when it comes to ourselves, we find it challenging to do so. The problem is that we judge ourselves according to the ideals of the world and yet forget about the opinion of the only One who knows us best.

Have you ever stood in front of the mirror and scanned yourself? You look at your hair, your skin, your weight, your body shape, the features on your face- pretty much anything that you can compare to others. Many of us start the ‘if only’ conversation with ourselves, tearing down our confidence bit by bit. If only I was curvier and not so straight, if only I had a smaller nose, if only my eyes were a different colour, if only my skin were lighter, if only I was taller, and the list continues. Our comparisons do not end with our physical appearance but go into our character, intelligence, and how people perceive us. We might see someone else being praised for their kindness and helpfulness when you believe that you have done far more than that person, and you take it to heart. You might feel unappreciated, and slowly but surely you become bitter about it. It is human nature to wish to be recognised for the good that we do, and for our accomplishments, but when it does not happen, it angers and hurts us.

There is this self-love movement that has taken over the media, but it in some ways it does more harm than good. There is nothing wrong with loving yourself, but it should never be at the expense of your faith, your health, and your self-respect. There is a healthy balance to self-love, and it does not include thinking of yourself far more than you should (vanity), choosing to be unhealthy and not taking care of your body, and believing that all things are acceptable as long as you love yourself while doing it. Wearing figure-hugging clothing that shows off your body is not respecting yourself, especially when we know that modesty is a woman’s garment. We have to tune out what the world thinks and begin to focus on what GOD says.

The best way to combat negative thoughts about yourself is memorising what GOD’S Word says about you. However, I will stress that you cannot expect to overcome self-negativity without some mental work. Just as your negative self-opinion developed over time, so will it take time to see yourself as GOD intended. I will raise my hand and say that I can verbally and mentally beat myself down until I despair of ever being worthy enough. I can take it from ten to a hundred in a matter of minutes, especially when I have heard a negative comment from outside sources or feel that no one seems to care about what I say. The self-pity becomes rather cringe-worthy at this point. But isn’t it wonderful to know that GOD’S Word covers any and every bad thought we may have about ourselves? It is as though He is saying: you may think that about yourself, but this is what you must believe about yourself as My child. For example:

You: I can never be enough!

GOD: And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power (Col 2:10)

You: No one truly loves me

GOD: But GOD, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us (Eph 2:4)

You: I am an idiot

GOD: But we have the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16)

You: I am just a nobody

GOD: But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light (1 Pet 2:9)

You: I always just feel so scared about things

GOD: For GOD hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Tim 1:7)

Do I need to go on? The Word of GOD is endless in countering every terrible thought that we can have about ourselves. But there is also the problem of self-image. We get so caught up on what we see and think we should be, but the Bible is clear about it:

In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works (1 Tim 2:9-10)

All that extra stuff doesn’t matter, what matters are the good works that you do for the kingdom of GOD. You must take care of yourself because you are the temple of GOD, but it is not to take over what is truly important.

I tend to repeat a verse over and over to myself until it drowns out that ugly voice intent on bringing me down. The truth is that as women of GOD, we are all worthy because He has made us worthy. Not by our own works, but by what He has done. We don’t have to strive to achieve what we believe we should be, we can simply obey Him. Jesus does not want us to focus on ourselves, but on Him, because He knows that when left to our own devices, we tend to make a mess of things. Let’s choose to focus on His Word and live joyful lives, and leave our own opinions and the worlds at the door.

Jesus the Good Shepherd

Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd, finds joy in seeing His diseased sheep progress toward healing.

Have you ever noticed how much a question mark looks like a Shepherd’s Staff?  I was in a Bible a Bible study the other day about questions in the Bible, and it just struck me how much the question mark looks like the staff of a Shepherd. Why hadn’t I noticed this before and is their a significance to that fact? As I pondered this, I began to see just how much of my life feels unsettled, like an unanswered question. I realized at this moment just how much I need Jesus, as the Good Shepherd, to lead me. Jesus refers to Himself as the Good Shepherd in John 10:

11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.12 The hired man, since he is not the shepherd and doesn’t own the sheep, leaves them and runs away when he sees a wolf coming. The wolf then snatches and scatters them.13 This happens because he is a hired man and doesn’t care about the sheep.

14 “I am the good shepherd. I know My own sheep, and they know Me,15 as the Father knows Me, and I know the Father. I lay down My life for the sheep.16 But I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will listen to My voice. Then there will be one flock, one shepherd. (John 10”11-16 HCSB)

The Good Shepherd knows His Sheep. He knows us cover to cover. He knew us before we were even born (Psalm 139). We know our Shepherd, we come to recognize His voice, His leading. We really are blind to the dangers of this world. For me, the Wolf is the World, and the harshness of life. The World can offer us things and entice us with its contrived promises.  But Jesus delivers His own life for us.  The Good Shepherd lays down His life for His sheep. We are safe with Him, cared for, protected. He will fight for us, stand in the gap, rescue us when we have strayed. The hired man in this passage is all the other people and things we have turned to besides Jesus. These people, even the good ones, can’t keep all the promises, they’re frail and needy, just like us. The other things we’ve turned to have failed us time and time again, leaving us with unanswered questions and wounded hearts. But the Good Shepherd, with His Shepherd’s Staff shaped like a Question mark, is the answer to all our questions.  Are you feeling perplexed, alone and in need today? Does your life feel like one huge unanswered question? Turn to the Good Shepherd, Lean into Him, Rest in Him. He will never leave you nor forsake you, like the other things that have failed you. He will fight for You and He proved His love for you in laying down His life, so that you might have life abundantly. Read all of John 10 today, and marvel at Your Good Shepherd.

The Bank of England has a Diversity Problem

The Bank of England has a Diversity Problem

A nine-strong committee look pretty similar: eight white men and white woman. This is the body that guides Britain’s economy and that is suppose to represent the diverse community the UK now represents.

Their monthly votes on interest rates ultimately determine how far our money goes.

Yet they don’t look anything like the people whose lives they have so much influence over, why is that? Its because the Bank of England has a Diversity Problem

The UK population is made up of different ethnicities. 87% of people are White, and 13% belong to a Black, Asian, Mixed or Other ethnic group and Women make up half of the UK population. Astoundingly 0% of the Monetary Policy Committee belong to a Black, Asian, Mixed or other ethnic groups and women make up one ninth of the committee. Shocking!

Mark Carney current governor is in fact, the 120th in a continuous line of white men to have headed the Bank.

It’s plain obvious the Bank has a diversity problem. But this is not a isolated issue as many other organisations in Britain have this very same problem.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said last month that the Bank was some way off its diversity targets for next year “with little evidence the gap is closing quickly enough”.

Joanna Place the Bank’s chief operating officer also said: “In terms of diversity and inclusion, we have done a lot more than just gender and ethnicity.

“We have a number of staff networks. We have inclusive events. We have a wellbeing policy. We have done a cognitive diversity survey. We have started to look at social mobility,” she added.

Unfair

The Bank’s search for a new governor kicked off earlier this week and many are hoping that this could herald the start of a new era with a black governor at the helm for the first time in its history. However, Wendy Carlin, a professor of economics at University College London, says the problem is not with the Bank of England, but the economics profession itself.

Minorities quit Bank of England as it fails on diversity

More troubling were the committee findings into the proportion of BAME employees at the organisation, with an increase of just 3 per cent between 2015 (15 per cent) and 2018 (18 per cent), and no increase between 2017 and 2018.

Just 5 per cent of employees working at senior management level came from a BAME background in 2018. This is not a coincidence.

Ethnic minority employees are leaving the Bank of England in disproportionate numbers and feel less comfortable with the organisation’s culture, according to internal research.

The Bank’s non-executive directors admitted that the “BAME [black, Asian and minority ethnic] resignation rate was above that for the Bank as a whole” and said that it was actively addressing the problem, according to minutes of a recent meeting. But that’s not enough.

Statistics already show that BAME workers in UK are third more likely to be underemployed — report and probibly less likely  to study economics, let alone get a job in the sector. TUC says study highlights a waste of black, Asian and minority ethnic talent and urges more effort to tackle discrimination at work

“We know this is part of a much bigger story. BAME workers are more likely to be unemployed, paid less, and aren’t getting enough of the top jobs. Employers and the government cannot afford to ignore these problems. They must now take real action to tackle underemployment and pay discrimination.”

The former business secretary Sajid Javid had called on businesses to do more to support the careers of black and minority ethnic (BME) workers and commissioned Ruby McGregor-Smith, the chief executive of the facilities management company Mitie, to undertake an independent review of BAME progression at work. The review is due to report by the end of this year.

Dr Heffernan says the profession itself should try to make sure it is attracting the widest possible pool of applicants.

“How you word a job will define someone’s right to apply. If you’re not getting the right kind of applicants then describe the job differently and see what happens.”

Christian’s can help

If the Church put more effort into actively encouraging its members to work in professions that would benefit greatly from a strong moral compass, and then support them in those roles, just think what benefit to our country there might be.

Facts about the The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC)

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is made up of nine members — the Governor, the three Deputy Governors for Monetary Policy, Financial Stability and Markets and Banking, our Chief Economist and four external members appointed directly by the Chancellor.

External members are appointed to make sure that the MPC benefits from thinking and expertise from outside of the Bank of England. A representative from HM Treasury also sits with the MPC at its meetings. The Treasury representative can discuss policy issues, but is not allowed to vote. They are there to make sure that the MPC is fully briefed on fiscal policy developments and other aspects of the Government’s economic policies, and that the Chancellor is kept fully informed about monetary policy.

Each member of the MPC has expertise in the field of economics and monetary policy. Members do not represent individual groups or areas — they are independent.

MPC members serve fixed terms, after which they may be either replaced or reappointed.

The PAC has called on the bank to provide a report setting out the additional steps it will take to ensure it meets its diversity targets by June 2019.

You may have great goals and mean well, however if you are trying to orchestrate things to happen your way, with your own timetable, you are only going to frustrate yourself.  At some point, you have to turn those circumstances over to God and trust that He has your best interest at heart.

The question then is, “How do I turn things over to God?”

Start by making the choice and declaring your resolve. Simply say, “Father, I choose to let You be God of this situation. I take my hands off. I trust You.” Then, choose to worship Him. Worship is one of the best ways to set your heart and mind to the right place. Finally, don’t worry, have faith. Worry is a sign that you are trying to control things without God. Worship is a sign that you are trusting God – You can’t worry and worship at the same time, so let faith be your guide.

Today, don’t carry around life’s frustration. Take the pressure off yourself and turn things over to God. Give Him control – let Him take your setbacks and turn them into comebacks. Don’t give up on your dreams or goals. Remember, the God who holds the universe holds you in the palm of His hand. Trust Him and let God be God in every area of your life. You can do it all things through Christ!

“Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him”¦”

(Psalm 37:7, NKJV)

Pray With Me
Yahweh, today I choose to release all my frustrations, doubts, cares and concern into Your loving hands. Father, I refuse to worry and choose instead to trust You. God, fill me with Your peace and Your Spirit. Show me Your ways as I surrender every area of my heart and life to You. Recreate and reshape my dreams, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

How To Be Overwhelmed by God’s Blessings

How To Be Overwhelmed by God’s Blessings

As a youth in church I hated today’s verse. I didn’t want to give my money to anyone and God doesn’t need it. I was so focused on giving  that I overlooked the promise. God says He will “open the windows of heaven and pour us out blessings”. But, notice that today’s verse says there is a condition – we have to step out in faith and bring our tithes to Him. In other words, we have to be obedient to God with our finances.

We are stewards over the resources God has given us. When we are good and faithful stewards, the Lord entrusts us with more. He opens the windows of heaven. Have you ever thought about what kind of blessing would be so great that there would not be room enough to receive it? It may be hard to comprehend, but that’s what God’s Word promises – to overwhelm us with His blessings! Hallelujah!

Today, I encourage you, be a cheerful giver, be a tither, bless God and put yourself in a position to receive His blessings. Begin to thank God for His faithfulness. Lift up your eyes to Him. As the Scripture says, prove Him and see Him move mightily in your life!

“Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

(Malachi 3:10, AMPC)?

Pray With Me
Yahweh, thank You for choosing to bless me. Father, thank You for the promise of opening the windows of heaven in my life. God, I choose to be obedient to Your Word. I choose to be a better giver. I choose to be faithful and thank You for Your faithfulness to me. I can’t wait to see You open You’re spiritual windows in the heavens and overwhelm me with favour, in Jesus’ Name! Amen.

CHRISTIANS across the world are “living in utter fear of discrimination and persecution says MP

CHRISTIANS across the world are “living in utter fear of discrimination and persecution says MP

DUP MP Sammy Wilson has said that CHRISTIANS across the world are “living in fear of discrimination and persecution as he demanded the British Government use its influence around the world to stop Christian persecution.

What the British Government is doing to help those across the world from being “persecuted daily” due to their religious beliefs, The DUP MP demanded to know.

Minister David Lidington during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday, gave a passionate speech to Cabinet Office and said

“While the McKee family in Northern Ireland are burying their daughter today murdered by IRA terrorists, hundreds of people in Sri Lanka are burying their loved ones — brutally murdered because of their faith.

The DUP MP

Christians across the world are now the most persecuted religious group

Sammy Wilson

The DUP MP

Its a fact, Christians across the world are now the most persecuted religious group with almost 300 million living in fear of discrimination and persecution,“and 4,000 being killed every year because of their faith.

“The Government has said that Britain is on their side, but Britain has become a pagan country over the past half century, creating a vacuum in which people will believe in anything and everything, according to Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, who leads the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales.

How much does the Government really care?

The DUP MP asked how is the Government using the UK’s soft power, our economic power, our contact with other Governments and our aid budget to help those who are persecuted daily simply because they believe in Jesus Christ?”

Last week Lyra McKee, only 29, was fatally shot by dissident republicans in Londonderry after being caught in the cross-fire after clashes erupted between a group calling itself the New IRA and police on the Creggan estate on April 18.

More than 350 people died and around 500 injured on Easter Sunday, following the bombings which targeted churches and hotels across Sri Lanka.

There was also a coordinated series of attacks on churches holding Easter services.

Britain’s War on Christianity

But perhaps we Brits need to take a look in our own backyard. For example “Christian street preachers should be free to share the gospel, even where it means challenging the beliefs of others.” – Christian Concern, in a petition to UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid.

In recent years, dozens of Christians – clergy and non-clergy – in Britain have been arrested or fired from their jobs due to their faith. Much of the harassment is based on three sections of two British laws that are vague and open to subjective interpretations.

At an appeal hearing at Bristol Crown Court, attorney Michael Phillips emphasized the importance of freedom of speech, even in cases where the speaker does not necessarily hold the views being expressed. Another attorney, Paul Diamond, argued that there is no right not to be exposed to contrary ideas. He added that should passers-by not wish to hear the preaching, they are able to walk away.

Godinterest’s Manifesto of Ethics

To promote freedom of religion — Violations of religious freedom are increasing globally in scale, depth and blatancy. Carried out by both government and non-state actors, they range from the mundane to the extreme (e.g. genocide).

To promote freedom of expression and internet freedom — Freedom of expression is an essential part of a properly functioning democracy and a free society. People should be free to express themselves both online and offline. But in many parts of the world freedom of expression is under threat.

To be a inclusive social network — We aim to share multiple voices and perspectives. We prohibit and will remove Offensive material that has been reported to contain (e.g., Pornographic material, hate speech, encouraging violence against others, etc)

To respect one’s right to remain anonymous — Our users place their trust in us to keep them safe, and, in some cases, anonymous. We view safeguarding that trust and protecting our users’ private information as vital to what we do.

The Emoji Bible has arrived… what ever next?

The Emoji Bible has arrived ? ?... what ever next?

In the quest for more diverse emojis the most popular and widely translated works in history, ‘The Holy Bible” has been given a new update with millennials in mind.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth, and then some time later ? created emoji ? they said.

Introduced as a “great and fun way to share the good news”, it supposedly interprets all 66 books of the King James Version with Unicode-approved emoji and commonly-used internet slang and a multitude of contractions.

Totalling just under 3,300 pages, the book — subtitled “Scripture 4 Millennials” — was made available on the iTunes store for US $2.99.

The translator told said that he or she preferred to remain anonymous, identifying only as the cool-dude-with-sunglasses emoji: ? which kind of says it all.

“I thought if we fast forwarded 100 years in the future, an emoji bible would exist,” said Mr ?. “So I thought it’d be fun to try to make it …

“I wanted to make it similar to how you might text or tweet a bible verse, by shrinking the total character count.”

It took about six months and used a program of the translator’s own creation that linked 80 emoji with 200 corresponding words,

“I started tweeting the verses out and it was sort of like a public proofread.” How profound.

View image on Twitter

The Emoji Bible had been met with a largely positive reception, said Mr ?: “Some really nice things, some not-so-nice things.” But it hardly a surprise as reflected in the response on Twitter.

“‘in the beginning angels created the stars & the earth’ i’m pretty sure it doesn’t go like that,” tweeted one user, prompting a correction from the @BibleEmoji account. Other have raised blasphemy allegations abound.

With the Pew Research Center finding “much lower levels of religious affiliation, including less connection with Christian churches, than older generations” in a May 2015 study of religious affiliation in the US population, its release comes with declining rates of religious affiliation across the current Millennial generation.

Mr Cool said “I think we should worry more about spreading ?? [peace sign emoji] & ?? [heart emoji] & less about what church affiliation we’re doing it under.”

Mystery man why don’t you reveal yourself?

Don’t Worry. Trust God!

Recently I have met quite a few people who are dealing with serious worries. To worry means to allow something to revolve in your mind over and over again without a solution. What are you worrying about today? God doesn’t want you to live worried or anxious about anything. He knows that worry steals your peace and joy. It affects every area of your life.

Have you heard the saying “don’t worry yourself sick”? That’s because worrying affects your physical body. It affects your sleep. You won’t ever gain anything by worrying; in fact, you’ll lose precious moments that you can never get back again. The good news is that God has promised that you can have victory over worry. It starts by making the choice to trust in Him. When you cast your cares on Him, He will give you His peace.

Today, make the decision to put an end to worry in your life. Choose to feed your faith and fill your mind with God’s promises. As you focus on God’s Word, you’ll drive out worry and fill your heart with faith and expectancy; and you’ll be empowered to move forward into the life of blessing God has in store for you!

“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

(Matthew 6:27, NIV)?

Pray With Me
Yahweh, today I choose to put an end to worry in my life. Father, I choose to feed my faith by studying Your promises and declaring Your Word over my life. God, help me to totally trust You instead of worrying today and every day, in Jesus’ Name! Amen.

Those Pesky Thorns

Those Pesky Thorns

One Easter morning, several Seasons ago, I was removing the Crown of thorns from the cross outside my house, and the black drape that had displayed the reminder of His death for two days. I then placed the white flower wreath around the head of the cross and draped the arms in white. As I laid the pieces on the ground, I began to wonder whatever happened to Jesus’ actual crown of thorns. I recently saw on the news, during the tragic fire at Notre Dame Cathedral, that there was a relic housed there that is said to be that crown of thorns.

Thorns have been with us since the fall of Creation. The Scriptures tell us this in Genesis:

The ground is cursed because of you. You will eat from it by means of painful labor all the days of your life. 18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.

(Genesis 3:17-18 HCSB)

Thorns are a result of the fall of man. My Pastor recently said that they represent sin, and as you study them in the Bible, that sure makes sense. They show up in many ways. In three instances in Scripture, they are used as a metaphor for the people the Israelites did not drive out from the land. God says that these people would be thorns in their eyes and in their sides, and that their false gods would be a trap and snare to them. (Num. 33:55, Joshua 23:13, Judges 2:3) In this instance they are the result of disobedience in following God’s command. In the book of Judges, they are used as an instrument of punishment (Judges 8:4-17). People are said to be entangled in them; they are what overgrows everything when not tended to. They are mentioned often as what is gathered and burned.

Most famously we have the New Testament references of the Crown of thorns Jesus wore, and the thorn in the flesh spoken of by the Apostle Paul.

As I stood there pondering the question of Christ’s Crown of Thorns, God began to weave together for me the picture of each of us carrying a thorn in our flesh from Jesus’ crown.

As Paul spoke of these thorns in the flesh, he said this:

Therefore, so that I would not exalt myself, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to torment me so I would not exalt myself. 8 Concerning this, I pleaded with the Lord three times to take it away from me. 9 But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me.

(2 Corinthians 12:7-9 HCSB)

This picture of a thorn from Jesus’ Crown being given to each of us to carry, as a thorn in our flesh, has blessed me many times in my own personal struggles. Paul said the thorn was given to him to keep him from exalting himself. Even so, I believe our thorns keep us from this same snare. The thorn I asked to have removed early in life was social anxiety disorder. Instead of removing it, God is always placing me in situations, where I am used to speak, teach, share, or sing publicly. Each time, I do it afraid, leaning on Him for the ability and stability to bring Him glory. Writing is so much easier because I can hide behind this computer alone, typing away. I pray that the Lord will bless you with that picture as you struggle with your own thorns in the flesh. Picturing it as one of the precious thorns that pierced our Savior’s brow, and is tipped with His blood, may just make it feel more like a privilege than a burden.

Spiritual Growth Equals Daily Watering

Spiritual Growth Equals Daily Watering

How’s your faith? Do you want to have more faith? Did you know faith can grow and increase? Notice the Bible doesn’t say, “faith comes by having heard the Word of God one time.” It says that faith comes by hearing – present tense. We have to hear the Word of God over and over again in order for it to take root in our hearts and transform our minds. God’s Word can transform us in an instant, but most of the time, our faith grows as we hear the Word of God again and again.

Like a seed needs water daily to grow, your spiritual seed needs the water of God’s Word daily. The more you hear God’s Word, the more you know Him. The more you know Him, the more you will be able to believe Him–and that’s what faith is!

Today, let your daily focus be God’s Word. Choose a few Scriptures to listen to and meditate on? Write them down and carry them with you. Let that truth sink down into your mind and heart. Let the truth of the Word transform your faith, and belief in a God that can move you forward into the abundant life God has prepared for you!

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”

(Romans 10:17, NKJV)?

Pray With Me
Yahweh, thank You for Your Word that is living and active. I pray that it will take root and grow in my life. Father, I submit myself to You and ask You to teach me Your ways. Give me the appetite to daily bask in Your promises in order to build my faith in You. God, give me a deeper insight into Your Word, so I will become more faithful to You and know You personally, in Jesus’ Name! Amen.
