Ian Norton - Founder of The Jerusalem Gift Shop - Testimony – News from Jerusalem (thejerusalemgiftshop.com)
by Ian Norton - From Heroin to HalleluYAH. I landed here in Israel on a one way ticket from a 4 year party in Greece... crawled off the boat in Haifa with about $10 in the pocket, Guitar in hand and hopeful of a colorful new start under way... or so I thought. Became an Israeli citizen in 1991 and after some years trying to ‘find myself’ in Tel-Aviv ended up performing in private ‘Live Sex Shows’ … that made a lot of money… but such dirty money would only be spent just on dirty living to anesthetize the reality of my situation (it was not a ‘fun’ job guys).
  • Sandi Holland, Writer/Artist Draw Nigh To Hope Christian Blog Hello Ian! What a profound statement you made, "but such dirty money would only be spent just on dirty living to anesthetize the reality of my situation (it was not a ‘fun’ job guys)." This great statement shows us that indeed, oil and water don't mix, and unrighteousness begets more unrighteousness. What we do in unrighteousness rarely converts to good. We fool ourselves and remain in our mess when we persist in thinking that all is well when we try to do good things with our ill-gotten funds. If we're on the way to being converted, that's ok though, to try to do whatever "good" that we can to help ourselves do better. But you saw an important truth; your "dirty" money could not help you get out of your disappointing life, because that very money kept turning in upon itself, and funding more unrighteousness. It kept the cycle going. That's why sometimes we have to take the very scary trip of giving up the source of dirty funds, and experience a time without nothing, until God lifts us up. God bless you!!! Thanks for this testimony!
