Will God Forgive Me?

One night in a church service a young woman felt the tug of God at her heart. She responded to God’s call and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Saviour. The young woman had a very rough past, involving alcohol, drugs, and prostitution. But, the change in her was evident.

As time went on she became a faithful member of the church. She eventually became involved in the ministry, teaching young children. It was not very long until this faithful young woman had caught the eye and heart of the pastor’s son. The relationship grew and they began to make wedding plans. This is when the problems began.

You see, about one half of the church did not think that a woman with a past such as hers was suitable for a pastor’s son. The church began to argue and fight about the matter. So they decided to have a meeting. As the people made their arguments and tensions increased, the meeting was getting completely out of hand. The young woman became very upset about all the things being brought up about her past. As she began to cry the pastor’s son stood to speak. He could not bear the pain it was causing his wife to be.

He began to speak and his statement was this:

“My fiancee’s past is not what is on trial here. What you are questioning is the ability of the blood of Jesus to wash away sin. Today you have put the blood of Jesus on trial. So, does it wash away sin or not?”

The whole church began to weep as they realised that they had been slandering the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Too often, even as Christians, we bring up the past and use it as a weapon against our brothers and sisters. Forgiveness is the very foundation of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. If the blood of Jesus does not cleanse the other person completely then it cannot cleanse us completely.

If that is the case, then we are all in a lot of trouble. What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!

“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee, he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:23

God does not simply overlook our sin and say, “You’re forgiven.” God sees our sin but is ready to forgive us because Jesus fully took our sin on Himself and paid for our sin by his death on the cross.

  2. What a world we live in. I and other can relate to this story on a personnel level. Unfortunately Church can sometimes be more political than the workplace. Just shows we’re all broken and in need of Jesus. It’s however dangerous when we stop recognising that we’re in need of a saviour and we then think we’re to holy, it next leads to people looking down on others and forgetting that Jesus’ blood has power to cleanse all sin..

I am not or have never commited those types of sins but I am currently being accused and fingers pointed at me because I am a survivor of severe domestic violence and have every biblical and legal right to divorce my husband and right now I am considering it prayerfully…..I also am a former self harmer and have faced judgement and ridicule for my past wth that.
    And for other things

  5. Oh man- that’s a sad story. Sometimes Christians show how messed up we are. I bet there’s all kids of truth the Bible speaks that we struggle to “truly” believe. Do we truly believe that God is active and being pro-active in our life? If we did, how would our day look different? Do we truly believe that God has a plan for our life? If so, how would we act differently. There’s a lot of complexity in these questions, but they’re good questions. Thanks for sharing. I wrote this about how God can use our past.

  7. I sometimes run into the same response from people that have known me a little while, not believing that MY faith is real. Usually the comment “oh, she found God now” accompanied by an eye roll or an uncomfortable silence when I mention God.

    It doesn’t bother me as much as when I am sometimes “silenced” by other Christians simply because of the assumption that before I met them I wasn’t a Christian. Admittedly I am much better Christian but my faith was always there, I just didn’t believe that I was worth being saved. Coming from many generations of Christians the thought that I may never receive His glory or see Gods kingdom because of MY sin was heartbreaking. Those are facts not many people know or even choose to ask but would rather assume I was completely faithless.

    Thank you for this post. I will remember your pastor’s son response. Sometimes people need to be reminded that if God leads you, He knows what He is doing, that our relationship with God is personal and most importantly Jesus was trying to save sinners not “re-save” followers. Who are we to question ANY act of God?

  8. The church at Philippi was dealing with their own controversies and quarrelling women. We know this because Paul calls them out, by name. If Paul were writing an open letter to us, sisters in the faith today, I believe it would read much the same. We don’t know what Euodia and Synteche are arguing about, we just know that they’re getting called out and Paul is pleading with them to “agree in Christ” because Paul knows that their disagreement can affect more than just the two of them; it can affect their witness and the church as a whole. He urges to the church to help remind them of who they are and of the work they have done together. He wants to remind them that, despite the quarrels and controversies, they are of one mind in Christ, co-laborers together for His kingdom.

  11. Thank you for that article. It’s good to know that when God forgives, He forgets. We seem to have problems “permanently deleting” the sins of those who repent.

The pastor was happy there was at least one strong man, and asked,”How come ur wife can’t control you?”The man quietly replied, “it’s my wife who told me not to move”.😆😆😆.   18. In regards to our past, (long past or 5 minutes ago) we judge ourselves negatively as well, redefining a ‘worthy’ or ‘unworthy’ status based on perceptions and not truth. Our kaleidoscope of self-perceptions can never reveal the truth of who we really are or how deeply we are loved.

  28. This article pulled me in and held my attention to the end. Not only creative but accurate. Most of us (Believers) are very critical of others. Jesus said, “Let the one without sin throw the first stone”. I love it when he God reminds me of my sins past and present, keeps me humble. Good piece

  31. Yes, this was a difficult part. Sometimes we judge others. But what if they are always stabbing you first… But still we need to remain calm. Oh life journey is so hard.

    Our past has a way of hunting us. We need to know how to deal with it after we had given our lives to Christ.
    The devil uses our past against us but when you know who you are in Christ your past gives you encouragement and not discouragement to live for God.

    People should learn not to judge people by their past. Even those that judge have their past and are also guilty as sinners.

    God is the Judge.

  34. very nicely written and beautiful direction taken of causing us to realize when you bring up one’s past that is actually in the past, we are putting the blood of J*s*s on trial.
