Christians frequently respond “I am blessed” when asked how they are doing.

Israel did receive blessings. God promised Abraham and his offspring that he would make them into a powerful nation and would bless them (Genesis 12:2). Israel was guaranteed a blessing from God’s presence. He assured them of a prosperous future. Abraham would have as many offspring as grains of sand on the beach. In addition, God promised his descendants the blessing of a land.

God forbade Balaam from cursing Israel because of these promises they had received in the past and would receive in the future. The only way, according to King Balak of Moab, to weaken Israel and prevent them from occupying his territory was to have Balaam curse Israel. However, that was impossible with God’s blessing and would not happen

We are fortunate folks as well. The blessings bestowed to Abraham and Israel are now ours as a result of Jesus. Additionally, God promised Abraham that through him, all nations would be blessed (Genesis 12:3). The promise was realized in Jesus, a descendant of Abraham. God is for us in Christ, and if God is for us, then no one can be against us. Nobody can ever be able to take away God’s love for us or prevent us from inheriting the promised eternal inheritance (Romans 8:31-39). Each of us can genuinely declare, “I am blessed,” because of Christ.
