History of Godinterest

Godinterest was originally launched on December 2, 2012, then discontinued and later recreated after the website was purchased in April 2014 by Dean Jones. The site was hit with a series of DDoS attacks soon after its relaunch from April 2014 to December 2014. The attacks were part of a campaign of a hacker collective. The attacks were huge at the time and repeatedly knocked Godinterest website (hosted on SocialEngine cloud servers at that time) offline for hours and at one stage almost a day in an attempt to disrupt day-to-day operations of the website.

On December 2016 Godinterest moved away from Social Engine Cloud to a self-hosted WordPress a free and open-source content management system based on PHP & MySQL. This was because of a lack of development of the Social Engine Cloud product which stagnated the growth of the Godinterest. Furthermore, the lack of transparency, investment, and development in accordance with the  Social Engine (Cloud) roadmap meant that there was not a way for Godinterest to retain and transfer its information to its new self-hosted WordPress site. Godinterest, therefore, was on this point held hostage and had to make a difficult decision which meant forfeiting the majority of its users information (photos) in order to move on.

On Apr 07, 2015 Godinterest launched a separate blog-publishing service built with WordPress that enabled the creation of multi-user blogs on its .org domain. As of July 2017, Godinterest had a total of around 250 blogs hosted.

On December 20, 2017, Godinterest introduced a major redesign on its .com domain as a dedicated microblogging social network, adding features such as web standards-compliant templates, individual archive pages for posts, comments, and posting by email. Then on December 18, 2018, Godinterest launched its latest version, migrating users from its aforementioned platforms.

At its core, Godinterest is a publishing platform, built on WordPress, where people can both write and read important, insightful stories on the topics that matter most to them and share ideas with the world. As a reader on Godinterest, you can read stories from authors, and interact with them by following their articles and profiles. As a blogger on Godinterest, you can create multi-user blogs and websites with time-stamped entries. The blogs are hosted by Godinterest are generally accessed from a subdomain of Godinterest.com. Blogs can also be served from a custom domain owned by the user (like www.example.com) by using DNS facilities to direct a domain to Godinterest server. A user can have up to 10 blogs per account.

Freedom of Speech

Many large internet platforms are now suppressing conservative articles. However, Godinterest is open to voices from the right and believe that Bloggers have the right to political speech and further that bloggers have the right to stay anonymous if they desire. Therefore, we're continuing to join with other groups to battle to protect and preserve the constitutional right to anonymous speech online.

Usage

Godinterest is a non-denominational website and mixes a Biblical-worldview with social issues and sometimes features reviews on secular artistry.

Demographic

According to Quantcast, Godinterest received more than seven thousand visits in its first month of activity and reached more than six thousands users monthly. Furthermore, its users tend to be young adults from the middle class with females outnumbering males (55% against 45%).

Awards and reception

Godinterest is the brain-child of project manager, designer, blogger and grateful Christian dad, Dean Jones. Jones grew up in London, Islington, and attended St Martins College of Art and Design. He left in late 2001 and became a Design Lecturer and then a Project Manager and from 2017 to 2018 led on the setup and delivery of a major programme on behalf of the House of Commons and House of Lords, (UK Parliament). Godinterest is not an alternative silo: instead, its what you build when you believe that the web itself is the great social network. In its first week on the Web, Godinterest was recognized on global news outlets including the Evening Standard, Washington Post, Huufington Post, LA Journal and The Blaze to name but a few.
